Hey everyone,
Given that this community exists to connect and empower its members, I wanted to take an opportunity to highlight the businesses that are navigating the current (and evolving) situation that has emerged due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m also requesting that if there are local businesses in your area that are doing good things that could benefit from more exposure, that you’ll please share their information here.
I’ve gathered a list of favourites from other Unbouncers to create a list of local businesses that have either pivoted into the online space, or have been navigating the situation thoughtfully and with the health and safety of their employees and customers in mind.
Local businesses in Vancouver:
Say Mercy and the Staff Meal (https://www.saymercy.ca/aboutstaffmeal)
Their model is simple. They take orders at 8 am, cook all day, and offer same day pickups. Say Mercy accepts donated meals and distributes them on your behalf. They’ve been able to employ some of their staff while offering food to staff who have been laid off - both inside and outside of the Say Mercy team.
Breaking Bread (https://breakingbreadnow.com/restaurants)
Breaking Bread lists local independent restaurants that have pivoted to delivery services spanning all across British Columbia.
Much & Little (https://muchandlittle.com/)
Much & Little is a clothing/household goods shop. They have free shipping >$100 since the store is now closed but also are donating 10% of online proceeds to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank until March 30th, 2020
Washington Avenue Grill (https://washingtonavenuegrill.com/)
Washington Avenue Grill is based in White Rock, and they’re offering 25% off pickup and takeout meals (this includes wine and beer 🍺 )
Oco Meals (https://ocomeals.com/)
Oco Meals is one of Vancouver’s easiest and fastest growing meal plan providers. Meals made in bulk by local restaurants, delivered straight to your door each week. They also have a great FAQ at the bottom.
Gomae Meal Prep (https://gomaemealprep.com/)
Gomae Meal Prep offers grab-and-go zero waste meals delivered to your door. This is a great option for anyone wanting to stick to a plant based diet.
Tight Club
Tight Club has started at-home workout videos via Zoom, and another nice initiative they’ve taken is readjusting so that 75% of the funds go to the staff, and 25% goes to the studio. Right now, classes are only $6!
BeerVan (https://www.beervan.ca/)
BeerVan is a collective of small family owned Vancouver craft breweries and beverage producers working together to deliver products to their customers. Also an honourable mention to 33 Acres who included a Staff Tip section on their website.
Quite a few companies have been delivering meals while we adhere to social distancing:
- Skip The Dishes (https://www.skipthedishes.com/)
- Foodora (https://www.foodora.ca/)
- Doordash (https://www.doordash.com/)
- UberEats (https://www.ubereats.com/ca)
