Required* field validation not firing for read-only form field

I’ve built a form that’s a doing a jQuery powered lookup to populate a read-only and required “postal code” field. The field is made read-only with more jQuery. I’m wanting to use Unbounce’s native validation functionality to make sure the postal code field has a value on form submission, but if the field is made read-only or disabled, the Unbounce validation doesn’t trigger. Is this a bug or expected behavior? A couple of workarounds are a ton of more jQuery validation logic and recreating the Unbounce error pop-ups, or a unclickable box over the fields, with some anti-tabbing code. Neither of which sounds appealing.
