In-text check marks on Optio Blue template - how can I add crosses/"x"?

The Optio blue template has little check marks that are in the text (not bullets). I’m wondering how I can include crosses (like "x"es) in the same style.  Any ideas? Screen shots show what I’m talking about - and the source code that shows they are tiny little text checks.  Fingers crossed that someone has an idea.
