Nice, that’s definitely a good way to go about it. For us, our Unbounce pages run on a subdomain so I just use hostname + gtm.formSubmit to catch all UB pages only, while ignoring their website.r

Hey Nito! Totally normal that GTM loads in the popup. Unbounce iframes the popup, so it’s pretty much a website loading in a website. The popup won’t trigger any additional events since the form submit event doesn’t happen in that iframe. I took a brief look at your video and it all looks to be working correctly!

Bug? Weird behaviour of text blocks

Thanks for this! Been fighting this bug for a long time and didn’t know this was a property we could set. @Jess I was able to replicate it when I am using dynamic text and the parent element contains a font-size attribute. Once I remove font-size, the incorrect text adjustments don’t get added. Once I add font-size, the text adjustments get added.

Late reply here but… Since we manage many clients, I actually have a single unbounce conversion for each client, in each platform, because each client gets their own GTM container. If a client has multiple pages, they all share the same unbounce conversion for that client. You can differentiate it because the leads are captured in unbounce and I add hidden utm fields to see which source and campaign they came from. If you set it up as a conversion in google ads, you can also navigate into the conversion and see which “webpages” triggered the conversion. In addition, because ad platforms drop a cookie when an ad it clicked, it will only capture the conversion IF that user clicked an ad, so you won’t be getting false conversion data. Basically our setup goes like this: Unbounce form submits, sends a GTM event With that GTM event you can trigger multiple conversions, so it’s 1 GTM event that will trigger our ad platform conversions. Hope this makes sense!

GTM Form Submission Trigger Update News and Updates When you want to trigger a tag upon form submission in GTM and you are installing GTM on your Unbounce page using Script Manager, you could set up a custom event using gtm.formSubmit event. Follow our documentation: How Do I Integrate Google Tag Manager With Unbounce? In the case where you have GTM installed manually, on the variant level, you would need to set up your triggers configuration as the default Form Submission in GTM as you can see below: [gtm-before1] Unbounce now has an official post regarding this.

After testing, this works for me as well. It is the “gtm.formSubmit” event that unbounce used to manually submit. This seems like the correct answer, perhaps Unbounce docs need some updates for this? I never received an update either after my support request 😦

Interesting, if that’s the case then it’s a little different now. The built-in variable picks up on any form submissions whereas the other event was specifically sent from Unbounce. That’s good it works though and maybe that’s what Unbounce is hoping we use now instead?

Interesting - I haven’t spent too much time on it since I’m counting on Unbounce to fix it. I’ve been busy working on other things for the time being, so I haven’t been able to do more testing. Did you submit that info also to Unbounce? I’m hoping they give me an update soon after I opened a ticket yesterday.

Yea if you actually compare their old script to the new one you can actually see that an entire block was removed where the “gtm.formSubmit” used to be. I still haven’t received any response on this being fixed. New Script Old Script

Ah, I see. I misunderstood. Yea I don’t think they will walk you through necessarily. Unbounce does provide support for GTM and you can track it with a popup instead of a thank you page. The comments above outline how to do so. However, there is a bug right now with unbounce where they changed their native integration for GTM which does not fire the gtm.formSubmit issue anymore. I’ve submitted this to the technical to be fixed. I haven’t received word of it being fixed yet.

Hi Dombur, That’s odd because the gtm.formSubmit event fires on a successful submission only. We still use this implementation and nothing has changed for us. If you are using a preview container (not published) and testing with the GTM Debugger make sure you are hitting the “refresh” button in GTM otherwise the preview container will not have the latest updates. As kevinhayes mentioned above, did you use the built-in GTM integration by just adding your container ID?

Any Hotjar users here?

I’m that user that clicks everything, highlights everything, spazzes around with the mouse. I’d probably make whoever is looking at HotJar very confused! (are there any easter eggs I can find? 😆) Colinsa brings up very good pointers. We’ve used HotJar, and are currently using Crazy Egg. We don’t necessarily report on the exact details, but instead we use that data to create optimizations that we then report to the client if it performed better or not. For example, we can see no user has clicked X CTA, so as an optimization we can change the verbiage and then see if it receives clicks. If it performed better and received clicks which turned into conversions, we could add that to our report. We changed the verbiage and it increased clicks and thus resulted in more conversions. But we don’t really send over the data that lead us to that decision. That data only really applies in the context of the landing page, specific ad, etc. As colinsa pointed out, if misinterpreted or taken o

Google Auto-Tagging and SSL

Hi @laurynb, That’s a really weird issue you’re encountering. On initial thought, google auto-tagging shouldn’t break SSL because that just adds the “gclid” parameter to the end of the URL. Can you provide a link to your landing page and what you’re google ads are pointing to for the landing page? Another question, are you using Unbounce’s SSL feature or are you using the WordPress plugin and your website itself has SSL? Unbounce’s SSL feature only works if you’re using a cname (aka subdomain).

Customizing Drop Down Menus in Form Fields

Hi Stephsullivan, In order to do this you have to add custom CSS styles for the form select fields. You will also have to add the radius, because unbounce does not target select fields by default. You can target all select fields by using this selector and adding the following css styles: <style> .lp-pom-form-field select { -webkit-appearance: none; -moz-appearance: none; border-radius: 20px; } </style> Ensure the border-radius is set to what you want. I’ll note that removing the default appearance will prevent select arrows from showing. A way around this is to use a background image, or a css wrapper with another class to add an arrow using a border trick. Here’s the css trick to that to add an arrow: <style> .lp-pom-form-field.drop-down::after { content: ""; position: absolute; right: 12px; bottom: 14px; border-left: 5px solid transparent; border-right: 5px solid transparent; border-top: 5px solid #000; } </style>

Okay, taking a look now. A couple questions for you: Are you testing a successful form submission? Are you checking the debug window before the redirect to the thank-you page happens? It will only show on the landing page, but will go away when it redirects you to the thank-you page. I may have not been clear! Do not use the built in “Form Submission” trigger in GTM. This is a general form listener. You will want to create a trigger using “Custom Event”. Are you using the native form functionality of unbounce? (Or is it a hubspot form, marketo, or some other service?) I did a test with our unbounce account to make sure the gtm.formSubmit still fires when using a redirect and it shows up for me! The screenshot below is a dummy page I made to test: Edit: Maybe looking at our example might help you. Here’s the landing page link, alongside the GTM preview link. Hi Phillip, If you added GTM though the domain scripts in Unbounce there should be an event that’s fired upon a successful form submission labeled as “gtm.formSubmit”. With this event you can trigger any conversions (instead of using a url based conversion). In GTM you’ll want to: Create a new trigger Set this trigger as a custom event Event name is “gtm.formSubmit” You can leave “This trigger fires on… All Custom Events” (unless you want to add conditions) For your conversion tags in GTM, set the trigger you just made And remember, you can use the GTM Preview button to have a debug window to test and see what tags and triggers are firing. Any changes you make in GTM while in preview mode need to be saved to update. Just click the “Refresh” button in GTM when preview mode is enabled. If you have any questions, let me know!
