what do you usually do if you’re trying to center something in a section, but the line to tell you it’s centered does not appear…?

Hi there! I’ll usually play around with it for a bit until it decides to snap into place. Did you refresh the builder?
How big/small is your element?
You can also use the position properties to get yourself centred.
