[Feedback Wanted] Popups

So…you joined the Popup beta. High-fives!

Whadd’ya think? No, but seriously, what do you really think? In other words:

We built Popups to help you create relevant offers and trigger overlays that maximize your conversion potential.

So, after giving Popups a spin…

  • …Did Popups do what you expected them to do?

  • …Did anything stop you from activating your Popups?

  • …Did you find our communications helpful?

All your feedback is welcome right here in this thread— let’s talk about how you’re using Popups and how Unbounce can make them better for you!

Thanks for the 411 on mobile Convertables! Is there an expected ETA?

Also - since we won’t be able to use the “on exit” trigger on mobile (totally get that), we should have 2 versions of the same convertable, with separate settings for desktop (set to trigger on exit) and mobile (to trigger after XX seconds).

@Stefano,

Appreciate you bringing this up! Scheduling is something that we will be working on in the new year!

We’ll keep you posted 🙂

Cole

Hey @Convert,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

Fortunately, I’m happy to inform you that we have introduced Custom “Dismiss” Buttons in the builder.

All you need to do is drag an additional button onto your Convertable and select “Close on click” from the Action dropdown in the Click Action section of your Properties Panel.

Please let us know what your thoughts are. Hopefully this meets your need!

Best,
Cole

Great suggestion, @Stefano!

Not sure if this was mentioned already, but having the ability to schedule convertables would be a nifty and appreciated feature!

The offers that we’ve been using are heavily influenced by the time of year (black friday, cyber monday, boxing day etc.) and it would be awesome if, somehow, the process of turning them on/off would be automated 🙂

Not comfortable testing them until pricing is know.

Hey @Roldan_Ania

Thank you for the great feedback. This pain is definitely something we would like to investigate, and your breakdown of the use case is extremely helpful!

Hey! I have a suggestion.

This is my problem: I have a landing page selling a product and I am using the embeddable CTA to show a popup with a discount offer when a visitor tries to exit. Checking the recordings of my visits, I have noticed that around 25% of the times the popup is triggered accidentally because the visitor moves the cursor out of the window while scrolling down.

Here I have an example of one of my visitors that moves the cursor out of the window towards the lower right corner. Obviously this visitor didn´t have intention to exit the page, but the “convertable” is triggered anyway.
(recording of one of my visitors)
http://www.smartlook.com/app/player?sessionId=5821d8daee72c37ba9206307&v=4&lang=es

For me the best option would be that the “convertable” sholud be triggered ONLY when the visitor actually tries to close the window on the navigator or with the keybord (ctrl+w). Maybe also when the cursor moves towards the upper side, but even in this case the visitor may only want to change to another tab and come back later to my page.

It would be great to modify the triggering option because “When a visitor tries to exit the page” is not always true.
Maybe it would be a good idea to offer both options.

-“When a visitor moves the cursor out of the window”
-“When a visitor tries to close the page” (clicking the “x” on the navigator or with CNTRL+W)

We have been evaluating about 15 light box systems during the last days and yours has a huge potential. However, for us to be able to start using the feature on our site we need A/B testing ability (or even A/X). When that is launched we will bring it to our site.

The next thing we really would like to see is the ability to have a two way sync on captured / current email addresses and names (etc). The reason for this is that we would like to be able to limit some campaigns so they are only valid to New customers, and to be able to do this we need Unbounce to know all our current customers email addresses and make those invalid for registration.

Everything else is AMAZING!

Our other favorites are:
Privy. But they don’t offer A/B testing
Sleeknote. They don’t offer pictures on the light boxes that show up on mobile devices. Images only show up on desktops.

Hi Cole,

I noticed that there is an “X” at the top of the screen that effectively does exactly what I want. Is there a way to replicate that functionality, only in button form? What code is executing when that X button is pushed?

I’d prefer not to reload the page since it’s a bit clunky of a user experience.

Thanks,
Glenn

@Jess Yeah! Actually I wrote a blog post about it (you can check it here, although it is in portuguese…).

In my experience, the frustration is the natural response when the user faces these distractions. It goes something like this:

  1. User arrives on the page
  2. Information gallore / can’t find a goal / UX related problems
  3. User gets confused
  4. No motivation to stay on the page
  5. Frustration
  6. User leaves page

Although it is sounds simple and easy to understand, there’s still a lot of bad exemples out there. You guys can easily transform this in an awesome blog post.

If you want extend this conversation or a translated version of my post, you can contact me directly at gspontin@gmail.com

Thanks again!

@gpontin That’s really great feedback, Gustavo! You could probably even turn that into it’s own conversation, something along the lines of “When landing page content becomes a distraction”… I’d love to see more thoughts on that. ☺

Awesome new feature and promo video!

I would recommend to remove video background in eCTA because its counter intuitive: It should have a clear message, clear follow up and without further distractions (like taking forever to load…)

Unless it loads in the background, while the user is still navigating through the page… 😉

Thanks again for this awesome feature!

Hey @joincube,

Happy to hear it! You can expect to have support for list page stats very soon 🙂

The team is working on it as we speak. 👍

Hi @Convert,

We’re glad that you’re getting value from Embeddable CTAs!

Dismissing the ECTA using a link or button is something that we’re intending to add support for in the next few months. While we don’t support it directly yet, one potential workaround is to set the dismiss link or button in the overlay to re-open the host page URL, setting the target to open in the Topmost frame. Of course, this would also work to open any other URL too.

Here’s a simple example showcasing a dismiss button: http://unbouncepages.com/bustle-overlay/

Loving the Embeddable CTAs! It would be great to have the conversion stats
right on the CTA’s list, like on the landing pages list.

Easy to produce and implement. So happy to have it! There’s some sort of mass firewall issue that easily blocks them (different than the ‘pop up blocker’ on each user’s browser). I’m remote from corporate HQ and had the full experience on my PC. None of my teammates at HQ could see the published CTA–several PCs/Macs attempted. It definitely was a location issue. We do a lot of marketing to institutional settigns, so it’s good to know that this is a potential limitation of the use.

Embeddable CTAs are awesome, so pumped you guys rolled this out! I have a question on how to customize the pop-up though…

I’d like to include a large CTA button, but underneath have a text link that says “No thanks, I’m good”. When the user clicks that, it should close the pop-up.

How can I achieve this? I’m guessing some javascript and a Custom HTML widget?

Thanks,
Glenn

Hey @Charles_Tanner,

Hopping in here. First off, thanks for reaching out and voicing your concerns about traffic. Apologies for the delay getting back to you.

I’m happy to inform you that while we are in Beta, we have chosen to not set any limits on the traffic (unique visitors or visits) that you drive to them. The reason for this (and ultimately the reason we are still in Beta) is so that we can learn from our customers and watch how this new tool is adopted. We will likely introduce traffic limits in the future, but we want to make sure when we do introduce those limits, that they are fair and deliver the customer value you’d expect from Unbounce.

During this learning period, we may reach out to you if the volume of traffic you are running to your Embeddable CTAs far exceeds our current expectations (which are very high, so we don’t think that will happen.)

That being said, you will notice that your account’s traffic meter in the app is currently including Embeddable CTA traffic. We are working on changing that, but until we do, please don’t worry about your Embeddable CTAs pushing you over your limits. We will only reach out to you about upgrading if we see your Landing Page traffic is exceeding your current account limits.

I’m also curious to know if there are any plans to help set limits
on these by time or unique visitors.

This is an excellent idea. Personally, not something I’ve thought of before and will be huge for when we do introduce traffic limits. I’ve added it to our backlog and will discuss it with the team.

Also, if I could say run this CTA from x date to y dates because I’m
promoting something like an event.

This is definitely something that we have planned for the future of Embeddable CTAs and will be included as part of the build out of more robust visitor targeting.

Regarding one of your earlier messages around basic functions, duplicating Embeddables was released this week! You’ll see it on the overview page of your Embeddable CTA.

Please, let us know what you think. Hope this helps.

Owen,

Thanks. I’m also curious to know if there are any plans to help set limits
on these by time or unique visitors.

So, it would be nice to be able to say, run this CTA until it hits 2,000
unique visitors so I can try them out without running the risk of waking up
the next day to find that I just burned 10,000 of my monthly 100,000
allotment.

Also, if I could say run this CTA from x date to y dates because I’m
promoting something like an event.

Those would make it much easier to manage many of these at once and allow
me to try out alot of different variations without having to constantly be
thinking about turning them on or off an over-monitoring how much traffic
they are getting.

Just my two cents.

Really love the new features because its something I’ve needed for some
time and this handling is very useful. Once the one line of script is
added, I don’t have to ask my web gurus to do anything more…generally
they don’t have time to help plus they have an aversion to any marketing
gizmos on “their” sites…lol).

Thanks a million for listening.

Hi @Kenji_Sano

I had a quick look at your ECTA. I believe that the reason that no conversions are showing is because a conversion goal has not been set for the CTA button. Please let us know if we can assist with this.

Unfortunately, this is currently really easy to do - especially for click through ECTAs. We will be adding more visual feedback in the Builder to help alert when no conversion goal is set to reduce the likelihood of ending up in this situation in the future.

As far as the feature requests, do you mind providing a bit more detail on the following?

  • Responsive: I assume that you are looking to show your ECTA to customers on mobile devices. Support for mobile devices will be available before the end of this year.
  • Improve loading speed: Are you finding that the ECTA is not appearing fast enough for your visitors?

Hi @Charles_Tanner,

Thanks for your feedback and feature requests!

Duplicating an ECTA will be available soon - the team is just wrapping up work on it. Multiple webhooks will also be available for ECTAs in a similar time frame. We will post an announcement in the community when these features are available. We haven’t started work on showing stats on the list view, but it will be coming as part of rounding out the ECTA feature set.

Hey @Kenji_Sano thanks for your feedback! Awesome that you’re seeing some pretty solid early results. As you’ve probably already read, you’re not alone in requesting some feature additions. Plans are in the works for expanding, so stay tuned!

I have been testing a few pages on a couple of my sites. Nothing crazy good to report so far in terms of results.

Unlike other pages view where alot of it is generated via push emails to my existing audience and I kinda know what to expect, theses are definitely going to significantly increase my traffic usage and I can easily see it getting out of hand.

Before I could see myself getting beyond careful testing, I would need a meter added as a feature to each one so I can set the number of unique visitors the ad would be displayed to and then it would auto-pause the campaign. This would allow me to “set-and-forget” more of these campaigns without loosing sleep that I have run-away traffic with no guarantee of conversions.

Hi!

I’m quite surprised that my CTR is 12%. No conversions yet though.

Feedback:

  • Implement analytics
  • AB testing
  • Responsive
  • Improve loading speed.

So far so good.
