Popups, Sticky Bars & Search Rank

Ever notice the message in the Sticky-Bar builder…“An excessive height could adversely affect your search rankings”?

Could I get some trustworthy evidence or articles addressing that message? I am aware that pop-up ads in general can affect rank and UX. But what if it’s timed? What if it’s relevant to site content? What if it’s helpful to the user? I would love more education or confirmation on this because the articles I have read seem to address the obvious. If it looks like spam, then your page will lose rank. Duh…

So what do you all think?

Let’s say my sticky-bar is 200px tall, and it’s a promoting something helpful like telling people to drink more water in the summer heat. Will my site lose a percentage of search rank in the summer because of that sticky-bar?

Looking for any kind of feedback from the friendly Unbounce Community 😃
